GOTHIC ROOTS PODCAST PROJECT

An Overview

DSC04299.jpg

"Gothic fiction is hardly 'Gothic' at all."

"..the fact that its representations and even its Gothicism are so pointedly fake and counterfeit from the beginning."

-  Jerrold E. Hogle, "Introduction", The Cambridge Companion to Gothic Fiction

Over the centuries, human fears conjured visible and hideous monsters so we could identify and subvert our innermost desires and drives. Gothic Roots Podcast will become a platform where we can discuss how these fictional creatures from lore have impregnated our culture through the Gothic Mode and have become permanent fixtures in film, music, and art as a type of social and cultural anxiety. The vampire and werewolf tropes become whatever we need so we can explore deep seated doubts within ourselves, can scrutinize de-fragmentation within our culture and society, or can reflect upon the ways we disenfranchise others. Eventually, I would love to expand this project into all types of monsters including zombies, ghosts, haunted houses, aliens, serial killers et cetera as part of an online effort to educate the public, but also to compile a resource for other Gothic/Speculative enthusiasts and researchers.
